Above ground toilets set for Malop Street

THE City of Greater Geelong council is investing in new gender-neutral public toilets on the corner of Moorabool and Malop Street.

The new facilities will house two Disability Discrimination Act-compliant toilet cubicles.

The council has allocated $460,000 of their 2019-20 budget to the facilities, which will replace the existing underground male and female toilets now on opposite sides of the road.

These toilets have been closed due to them being in poor condition and constantly attracting vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said the new toilets would be a significant improvement.

“Above-ground toilets are safer and more inviting for users and will be much easier for our employees to maintain.

“This upgrade will provide visitors to our city centre with modern, clean and universally accessible amenities.”

Though the intersection will be without public toilets during until the construction is finished, other toilets can be found at the Civic Centre Car Park, the Geelong Library, Busport, Transvaal Square, Little Ryrie Street, the Waterfront and in Market Square and Westfield Geelong.
