MORE than 50 students from a collection of rural Victorian primary schools have enjoyed a week of fun and adventure at Cottage by the Sea.

The Queenscliff based charity hosted one of its Take a Break programs earlier this month, with students enjoying boogie boarding, surfing and rock pooling.

The popular program encourages children to be active, healthy, confident and respectful.

Children are given opportunities to experience a wide range of fun and inspirational activities that challenge, encourage team building or feature experiential learning.

The children spent hours exploring the local beaches, discovering light houses, war bunkers and fossicking through the rock pools to find crabs, starfish and darting ghost shrimp.

However, nothing compared to the much-anticipated fishing charter which was later described as the highlight of the week.

More than 50 students took part in the Take a Break program at Cottage by the Sea.

The children boarded the boat, and it wasn’t long before they were bringing up the fish.

Each catch was met with exciting squeals, cheers, proud smiles and supporting pats on the back from fellow participated.

A visiting teacher said the week at Cottage was full of adventure, fun, new friendships and long-lasting memories.

“Many of our children have never had the opportunity to go to the beach or on a boat. I’m sure they have made lifelong memories from this experience.”
