Adventure Race comes to Anglesea
MORE than 100 outdoor enthusiasts headed to Anglesea recently to take part in an adventure odyssey.
This year was the first time the Sprint Series Adventure Race was held in Anglesea, with the event attracting participants from across Victoria.
Organised by Adventure Junkie, the event showcased the area’s stunning coastal views, pristine waterways and adrenaline-packed mountain biking trails.
Anglesea’s Sprint Series Adventure Race on October 21 offered both a novice and classic course to cater for beginners through to elite adventure athletes.
The course took participants between two and five hours to complete and involved mountain biking, trail running, and kayaking.
Teams of two will progress through each leg of the course by first planning their route between checkpoints then navigating using the provided map.
The race is not only a physical test, with strategy, navigation skills and teamwork being crucial to smoothly progressing though the course.
The Triple R Thursdays team of Deanna Blegg and Gavin Allen won the classic course, followed by ATEO.com.au and Bass Coast Barracudas.
In the novice event, Adventurobics (Adam Brown and Jess Brown) triumphed, followed by Edwards and Bob Da Gangsta.
Adventure Junkie co-ordinator Maria Plyashechko said the two course options and race backdrop provided something for everyone.
“The novice course offers beginners a great opportunity to team up with a friend or family member for a great day out in a safe environment.
The course is achievable by young and old with the sense of accomplishment at the end being worth the effort.
“The classic course is for racers who want to challenge themselves and test their limits. A race like this pushes teams both physically and mentally.”
