DOG owners and footy fans are invited to celebrate the end of the 2019 footy season with a fashion parade for their four-legged friends.
In its fifth year, the 2019 AFL Grand Final Dog Football Fashion Parade at Portarlington will be held on Friday September 27.
Hosted by Woofers and Walkers (responsible dog owners’ group) located in Portarlington, owners are encouraged to come along dressed in their favourite team’s colours, either as an entrant in this year’s parade or as a supporter cheering others on.
This is a great fun event for both the four legged and two legged members of the family.
Entry for you and your dog is a donation for Portarlington Food Assistance Program to help owners with pet food.
Woofers and Walkers Secretary Julie Elterman said if you are pressed for time to create a new outfit, don’t worry, as the good news was that last year’s dog footy fashions were still in vogue but with new accessories.
“Fashion accessories will be keenly spotted by our judges,” Ms Elterman said.
“We welcome back our popular well known and experienced judges Jayne Sedgmen (Just Next Door) with Steve Cogger (Port Demons).
“Jayne brings her fashion boutique experience and Steve our footy expert knows all that is needed about aussie rules.
“Prizes will be awarded with treats for our woofers.”
Entrants are to sign on from 10am with a pre-parade walk start time at 10.30am.
The pre-parade walk will be along Newcombe Street, with the final parade in front of the judges around the Rotunda Information Booth commencing at 11am sharp.
Please note dogs are to be on lead.
Entrants will be invited to parade with an on-lead walk in front of the judges stopping to command their dog to do a sit on the red paw mat (our red carpet).
