Afterglow brings flashy running fashion back

November 7, 2018 BY

Runners enjoy last year’s event.

THE Surf Coast is once again set to glow, glitter and glam it up with the Black Diamond Afterglow Night Trail Run taking place on November 24.

The event, from Anglesea-based tour and events company Tour de Trails, is expected to attract up to 700 runners attired in their disco best.

The run along a course from Point Addis back to a lit-up finish line at the Salty Dog Café in Torquay  has added a new 5km ‘mini-glow’ run to its traditional 21km and 13km line-up, with event organisers hoping to attract a “New Wave” of trail runners.

“It’s probably the least serious trail run event on the calendar, but we reckon the most fun,” coorganiser Peri Payne said.

“We predict more bad-taste tight-and-bright leotards to be worn than ever before – and that’s just the blokes!

“We get all sorts of costumes, from rainbow tutus, to clown and unicorn motifs, glow in the dark UV and even runners sporting a full set of LED lights.”

She said running trails at night was a very different experience.

“Even for those who have experienced the Surf Coast Walk recreationally, or via running in other events on the trail such as our sister outing, the Surf Coast Trail Marathon, it’s a whole new vibe running it under a blanket of stars.”

On-course entertainment includes fire twirlers, a lit-up digeridoo player, a saxophonist, an acoustic guitarist and a DJ belting out ‘80s hits at the finish line.
