Agave stands tall by the beach
NO, it’s not a prehistoric dinosaur, ostrich or emu – it’s a plant!
Bells By The Beach Holiday House owner Jan Bell is very proud of her tall Agave attenuata, which has flowered for the first time in 15 years.
“The aesthetically pleasing specimen has a thick stalk, about 12cm in diameter, with soft feathery fronds and buds poking through,” Ms Bell said.
“There’s a patch of open flowers and thousands more ready to bloom.”
Ms Bell said the plant was now at least four metres tall and resembled a prehistoric dinosaur, ostrich or emu.
“When this plant finishes flowering, it will shrivel up and die – such is life in the plant world!” she said.
“It is a great source of interest to our guests, neighbours and Facebook followers.”
Bells By The Beach Holiday House is at 24 Roditis Drive, Ocean Grove.
