Andrews sends ace grant Grove tennis club’s way
OCEAN Grove Tennis Club has aced a grant for $860,000, which it will use to significantly upgrade its courts and rooms.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, who was joined by Bellarine MP Lisa Neville and members from the tennis club, made the announcement last week.
Ms Neville said she was pleased the club had focused its redevelopment on ensuring tennis was available to people of all abilities and ages.
“This is highlighted by the club’s plans to upgrade two courts for its terrific Wheel Chair Tennis program,” Ms Neville said.
“The plans also include providing full disability access to the club’s rooms and facilities such as toilets, change rooms and kitchen.”
Ms Neville said the Ocean Grove Tennis Club was the biggest tennis club on the Bellarine, with more than 400 members.
“The membership is constantly growing and includes both strong junior and veterans membership,” Ms Neville said.
“This significant grant will ensure the club continues to grow and prosper, which means more tennis for more people.”
Ms Neville said clubs like Ocean Grove were also more than a game of tennis.
“They create an important connection and cohesion for a community by providing social engagement for many people who may otherwise not have that important contact with others,” she said.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate the Committee of Management on the work it has done in securing this grant and I now look forward to working with them on the much anticipated upgrade.”
