Art group celebrates 15 years of shows
THE Barwon Heads Art Group is this year celebrating 15 years of presenting art shows to the community.
This group started 20 years ago by its mentor Eileen Batty and her husband Keith (now deceased). Eileen invited a few people into her home to try their hand at painting.
Now, after 20 years the group is situated at the Barwon Heads Senior Citizens Centre with 18 artists, and three of those artists have been with Eileen all those years.
Convenor Dorothy Van Dorp said the art shows started with a small group showing their art in the small coffee room at the centre, and that it didn’t take long before they realised how much the community enjoyed their paintings.
“We now hold two art shows a year with over 150 paintings on show, we are local artist with original paintings,” Dorothy said.
“We now look back and see how much we have improved over the years”
Dorothy said visitors and the community amazed them by continuing to support them at each art show.
“They come along to view their favourite artists’ work or to see what paintings are on show, those who are on holidays come along to have look at paintings of the local scenery as they make great gifts and souvenirs,” she said.
“We also have abstract, landscape, flora, modern and many others to choose from.”
The Melbourne Cup Art Show 2018 is being held from November 2-5 between 10am and 4pm each day.
The show is at the Barwon Heads Senior Citizens, Clifford Parade in Barwon Heads.
