February 13, 2018 BY

Torquay resident and ANZ Hot Shot Tennis star Lachlan Thomas tossed the coin for the women’s Australian Open match between Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and Italy’s Francesca Schiavone.

TORQUAY resident and ANZ Hot Shot Tennis star Lachlan Thomas took centre court at the Australian Open last month after he was chosen to toss the coin before a match.

Lachlan, 8, was presented with the ANZ commemorative coin ahead of the 2018 open and joined 170 ANZ Tennis Hot Shots as they walked among the world’s best players.

The coin features three-time Paralympics gold medallist and ANZ ambassador Dylan Alcott engraved on the heads side of the coin, with a ball and ANZ logo on the tails side.

ANZ group executive Fred Ohlsson said the bank was committed to supporting grassroots tennis around Australia through the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots program.

“These children received their own commemorative coin in time to perfect their coin flipping skills ahead of the Australian Open,” Mr Ohlsson said.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is Tennis Australia’s official tennis development program with a record 384,584 children aged 3-12 playing ANZ Tennis Hot Shots last year.

Smaller courts, lighter racquets, lower nets and low compression balls are utilised by the program to make it suitable for children of all abilities.
