Australia’s finest printmakers shortlisted for Geelong award

“The Wave of Change” by Ocean Grove artist Joel Wolter has been shortlisted for this year’s Geelong Acquisitive Print Prize.

Works from 37 established and emerging Australian artists have been shortlisted for the Geelong Gallery’s 2019 Geelong acquisitive print awards.

Representing Australia’s best contemporary printmakers, the acquisitive awards and biennial exhibition will feature works by Alison Alder, Rosalind Atkins, GW Bot, Susanna Castleden, Tony Coleing, Christine Courcier-Jones, Marian Crawford, Phil Day, Marieke Dench, Clive Dickson, Dianne Fogwell, Graham Fransella, David Frazer, Silvi Glattauer, Jackie Gorring, Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison, Rew Hanks, Kyoko Imazu, Locust Jones, Martin King, Barbie Kjar, Steve Lopes, Tim Maguire, Marion Manifold, Jordan Marani, Laith McGregor, Glenn Morgan, Stieg Persson, Brian Robinson, Teho Ropeyarn, Jonas Ropponen, John Ryrie, Heather Shimmen, Ruth Stanton, Anne Starling, and Joel Wolter. The exclusive exhibition will be held at the Geelong Gallery from September 20 to November 24.

During this time, prizes totalling $10,000 will be made, including the Geelong acquisitive award ($5,000) and the Ursula Hoff Institute Award  ($5,000).

In collaboration with Queenscliff Gallery and Workshop’s Peebles Print Prize, one artist will be selected by a panel of judges to participate in a five-day printmaking residency at QG&W.

Winners will be announced at the official exhibition opening on Thursday  September 19.

The 36 shortlisted works to be featured in this year’s exhibition were selected from hundreds of entries submitted by artists all over Australia.

They each pay homage to the technical and diverse nature of contemporary printmaking practice.

Geelong Gallery is located at 55 Little Malop St, Geelong and open daily from 10am-5pm. Admission is free.
