Avalon Airport evacuated by police

Avalon Airport has been evacuated amid an ongoing police investigation.

Emergency services were called to the airport just before 6am on Thursday.

It is understood the incident relates to a bomb scare, with a suspicious item reportedly discovered at the airport shortly before 6am.

In a statement, Victoria Police confirmed the evacuation is precautionary.

“Police are conducting a safety check at Avalon Airport,” a spokesperson said.

“The building has been evacuated and area cordoned off as a precaution while the investigation is ongoing.”
