Award-winning films return to the Bellarine

FILMS from the winners and finalists of the North Bellarine Film Festival will grace the big screens again for the St Leonards Film Society’s Short Film Festival.

The inaugural event will promote the films that have featured in the North Bellarine festival in recent years, supporting emerging and young filmmakers in learning the craft.

Working closely with the North Bellarine Film Festival, the St Leonards group has sponsored the People’s Choice Award at its annual event and is excited to host its own version.

St Leonards Film Society secretary Ellen White said the group was approached by the North Bellarine Film Festival to host the event.

“We’re delighted to do that because not everyone has the opportunity or the time to go to the North Bellarine Film Festival,” she said.

“By us putting it on, we are not only promoting North Bellarine, we’re also promoting short films, which are a really good way for emerging filmmakers and youth filmmakers to actually learn the craft.”

The St Leonards event promises a social afternoon, bringing people together who have a shared interest in film and encouraging those interested to join a club in their local area.

Ms White said she is looking forward to seeing the talent within the filmmaker community, with the understanding it’s not easy to make a film.

“It does take a bit of time and effort, but people have to start somewhere and here’s an opportunity for them to see where they start.

“Hopefully they will also go along to the North Bellarine Film Festival and see a whole lot of new films that they haven’t seen before.

“It would be nice if people round up some of their friends and families and bring along some drinks and nibbles and enjoy a nice Sunday afternoon out.”

The St Leonards Film Society’s Short Film Festival will be held on Sunday, October 12 at the Indented Head Hall.
