Awesome artists part of U3A course

January 23, 2019 BY

Artists Jan and Geo Francis are among a small group of Surf Coast talents to be celebrated in U3A Surf Coast’s latest five-week course titled “Awesome Artists of the Surf Coast”.

IN A bushland acreage near Anglesea, artists Jan and Geo Francis embrace a personal and working relationship that has extended across four decades.

Their owner-built mud-brick home, gallery, studios and garden are a token of their collaborative abilities and creative instincts.

Jan’s paintings and Geo’s sculptures have been recognised outside the Australian border, receiving awards from arts academies in Italy.

Boasting a list of artistic achievements, their international status has granted them an ambassador title for cultural exchange between Australia and Piemonte in northern Italy.

In honour of their work, the couple will be amongst four other Surf Coast artists celebrated in U3A SurfCoast’s latest five-week course titled “Awesome Artists of the Surf Coast”.

Included as part of the 2019 first term program which begins on February 11, the course has been designed to educate the local community on the artists it proudly houses.

Twenty-four courses are available for enrolment, including a new tai chi class and additional one-on-one tutorials in computer skills. All presentations will be held at Anglesea Community House and will run for approximately 90 minutes.

Enrolments for all courses can be made any time online at u3asurfcoast.org.au or at Torquay Community House on February 1 between 9.30am-noon and at the U3A office at the Senior Citizens on February 8 between 10am-noon.

Other local artists taking part include Sue Corbet, Cinnamon Stephens, Brian Alexander and Catherine Brennan.
