LOCAL cyclists hit the road from Adelaide to Barwon Heads this week as part of fundraising ride Bridge2Bridge2 (B2B2).
The 21 cyclists from Barwon Heads Cycling Club (BHCC) took off yesterday morning (Wednesday) and will ride 175km for five days, returning to the town this Sunday at 2pm.
The riders’ fundraising efforts also hit $32,830 earlier this week, with funds going to local organisations Give Where You Live Foundation and the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.
The ride comes after nine cyclists rode from Sydney Harbour Bridge to Barwon Heads Bridge in 2016 for the first Bridge2Bridge, raising more than $25,000. A final rider’s briefing for B2B2 was held on Sunday morning, with BHCC riders, friends and family coming down to show their support as they finalised preparations.
Leading up to that, The Tin Shed – Barwon Grove Golf Club hosted the Barwon Heads Cycling Club B2B2 Friends & Family Day on Sunday September 8.
The afternoon raised more than $2500, and featured raffles, auctions, barbeque and live music.
Support from the local community and businesses is continuing to flow in.
The riders taking part in B2B2 comprise Andrew Quayle, Col Duthie, Graeme Hanel, Trav Bell, Damien O’Malley, Tracie Roderick, Dean Roderick, John Barker, Michael Sheridan, David Goldie, Shane Blackett, Jason Borg, Barry Stevens, Neville Wright, Gavin Page, Ross Piper, Kane Fraser, Stephen Gill, Murray Joseph, Craig van Dort and Geoff Wilson.
B2B2 starts near Adelaide Oval Bridge on September 18 and finishes at the Barwon Heads Bridge on September 22.
