Baby bundles delivered by state government
COMPLIMENTARY baby bundles for first-time Victorian parents will come into effect from July 17, an initiative part of the Andrews government’s $213.7 million plan to support new families.
The bundle – which is valued at $150 – features a teething ring, nappy bag, sleeping bag, a cotton wrap, first aid kit, sunhat, toothbrush and a grow suit.
Following community consultation with over 1,000 people, the bundle comes complete with four picture books as well as a booklet developed in partnership with Raising Children Network on child health and safety.
A panel of experts in childhood literacy and development selected the winning books, all written by Victorian authors:
• Baby Days by Nicola Philp
• Ten Little Owls by Renee Treml
• Puddle Hunters by Kirsty Murray and Karen Blair
• Gumtree Buddies, a soft pram book produced by Tiger Tribe
Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman said the bundles are packed and ready to be delivered to new families in South Barwon over the coming weeks.
“Bringing your bundle of joy home for the first time is life changing but we also know it can be challenging. We are making this precious moment that little bit easier and ensuring our youngest Victorians have everything they need to thrive,” Mr Cheeseman said.
“Not only are we giving local parents the help they need, we’re also giving some of Victoria’s emerging authors their big break.”
