A LOCAL culinary juggernaut has again rolled past its challengers at Australia’s Best Pie and Pastie Competition.
Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes was awarded top honours in the poultry category for its Pesto Chicken and Sundried Tomato Pie.
The event saw judges taste more than 1,800 pies from 370 of the best bakeries across Australia.

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes general manager Nathan Williams said his group entered 19 pies and two pasties into the event.
“We were so happy, it was amazing to win it again.
“Over the past couple of years, I’ve done some more creamy herby pies, like the mushroom and truffle, which won in 2022; chicken, leek and tarragon; and carbonara.
“I’ve consistently had these sort of pies scoring really well, and I love pesto, so I just thought it would be great to get it into a pie.
“It takes a bit of work and playing around, but we came across this pasta recipe that was cream-based with pesto and sundried tomato and we were rapt with the result.”
Mr Williams said he submitted a version of the now award-winning pie to the competition in 2024, but made some slight tweaks this year to get it over the line.
The win takes Rolling Pin’s national title tally to 25 ahead of the Great Aussie Pie Competition in September.
“It [the win] gives us a great little confidence boost,” Mr Williams said.
“The few weeks going into awards is quite stressful, but having done all that recently is probably a good thing.
“Then there’s the expectation on will or won’t you win something… we go in with very high hopes every time. We hope to get our hands on the big trophy, that’s what it’s all about.”
