Band night a perfect start for arts hub
A $10,000 community donation has kicked off a fit-out of the newly opened Barwon Heads Arts and Community Hub.
Barwon Heads Arts Council hosted a fundraiser earlier this month to buy equipment for its new home, allowing it to host a range of arts activities for locals.
More than 100 people attended the fundraiser for a night of music that raked in a total of $10,787 for the hub, which BHAC said would go towards equipping its new facility for purpose.
“The Bash Big Band kicked off the fundraiser with an 11-piece band made up from a group of talented local musicians from Barwon Heads, the Bellarine and Geelong,” BHAC stated.
“All funds raised go towards equipping the Barwon Heads Arts & Community Hub with everything from art hanging systems, art tables and supplies, to IT equipment and more.”
“The hub is set to be a new and much-needed ‘clubhouse’ for the arts community and local community groups on the Bellarine.”
The hub’s new life as an arts centre kicked off last week with an inaugural community art class hosted by Barwon Heads art teacher and illustrator Liz McGrath.
Meanwhile, the hub will also have an open day on August 28 to display the new space and its possibilities to the Barwon Heads community.
The arts hub opened in June when the state government finished its $1 million rebuild of a former kindergarten on Clifford Parade. The City of Greater Geleong also provided land and $427,000 for the project.
