BARWON Coast last week recognised its volunteers for their contribution to the health, safety and enjoyment of the Barwon Coast.
Held on May 20 as part of National Volunteer Week, the annual event included various groups from around the region.
Guests were welcomed to the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club where they were thanked by Barwon Coast Committee of Management chair Sandy Gatehouse for their passion and commitment
“Volunteers are the heartbeat of our coastal community,” Ms Gatehouse said.
“From conservation and education to safety and stewardship, your work ensured that the coast is cared for today and protected for future generations.
“National Volunteer Week is a chance to say thank you, and to celebrate the deep connections you create between people and place.”
Speeches and stories were also delivered throughout the evening, including on behalf of Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant, while a coastal inspired quiz also took place.
Barwon Coast works with many passionate and local community groups to help care for the coast and encourage more people to join them.
The celebration included volunteers from Coastcare groups, Estuary Watch, Friends of the Bluff, Friends of the Hooded Plover Bellarine, Friends of the Lobster Pot, the Foreshore Master Plan Community Reference Group and local Surf Life Saving Clubs.
The snapshot from this year’s achievements showcased a range of work from dune planning and community education through to bird monitoring and coastal safety.
Barwon Coast thanked all its volunteers, including those who were unable to attend the celebration but whose work continues throughout the year.
