DESIGNS for a mountain bike pump track for Barwon Heads have been revealed, with the City of Greater Geelong (COGG) asking for community input to help make its final decision.

The council released two track concepts for the planned BMX facility last week, detailing its vision for the trails and key features.

Both options would cover 1150 square metres, have an asphalt surface, include roller doubles for beginners and gap jumps for intermediate riders, and banked and linked turns designed to approach at speed.

The key difference between the tracks is single-directional versus multi-directional riding; the single-direction track caters for more riders at a time, but offers less variety in how to approach the course.

Council officers visited Barwon Heads on Tuesday evening to field questions and ideas about the designs, while there’s also an online survey open.

Feedback closes on April 4, with the council anticipating it will finalise its design in May.

COGG said a bike park for Ocean Grove was also in planning, which would include expert ride lines and more jumps for advanced riders.

Designs for the Ocean Grove District Bike Park are due for release by mid-year.

Bellarine mountain bike facilities have been in the spotlight in recent years when the council flattened makeshift bike jumps at Ocean Grove for safety reasons, reigniting a shared appetite for the purpose-built facility.

The Barwon Heads pump track is the latest Barwon Heads Village Park project to progress, after COGG adopted a master plan for the precinct last year.
