BARWON Heads’ IGA supermarket has been recognised as among the best independent supermarkets in the state at this year’s Victorian IGA Awards of Excellence.

The annual awards formally acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Victoria’s independent retailers.

Barwon Heads IGA took home three awards at the ceremony, held earlier this month: Medium Store of the Year, Medium Grocery & General Merchandise Department of the Year, and Medium Delicatessen Department of the Year.

The supermarket, located in Bridge Road, has recently been through a major refurbishment.

It now features a significantly expanded range and improved categories such as fresh floral, cut cheese and a serviced delicatessen.

Barwon Heads IGA owner Andrew Maud and his team are also attracting local shoppers and seasonal tourists with their focus on presentation standards and consistent pricing across the store.

“We’re incredibly proud that we have been recognised with three awards, including Medium Store of the Year at the 2025 Victorian IGA State Awards of Excellence,” Mr Maud said.

“Since we’ve completed a significant refurbishment of our store, we’ve been able to expand our range, offering shoppers even more local products and great value.

“We would like to say a big thank you to our shoppers and the local community, and to our amazing team for all their support, we’re feeling very grateful.”

The Victorian IGA Awards of Excellence were judged on a range of criteria,

including customer service, community pride, department excellence, brand values, merchandising and the stores’ overall performance.

The 21 awards were presented at a ceremony hosted by television personality and former competitive swimmer Giaan Rooney.

Barwon Heads IGA will now progress to the National Awards of Excellence in July, where they will go up against state category winners from across Australia.
