THE Barwon Heads Main Jetty has reopened to the public following extensive maintenance works aimed at ensuring its safety and longevity.

The renovation included replacing weathered decking planks and structural beams, installing fresh timber capping on the jetty approach, and upgrading to new stainless-steel fasteners.

Barwon Coast chief executive officer Gareth Smith said the structure was an important part of the community.

“This structure is not just a vital piece of infrastructure; it’s a part of our community’s identity,” Mr Smith said.

“The upgrades ensure that current and future generations can continue to enjoy the jetty safely, whether for fishing, sightseeing, or simply taking in the stunning coastal views.”

Barwon Coast has retained the weathered timber planks removed during the renovation to be repurposed for future projects.

“By repurposing the old timber, we’re not only reducing waste but also preserving a piece of local history,” Mr Smith said.

“We look forward to seeing these materials given new life in projects that will further enhance our coastal areas.”

The Barwon Heads Main Jetty, built in the 1930s, has been a central feature of the town, serving as a popular spot for fishing, swimming, and boating activities.

This week it featured as the launch pad for the annual Barwon Heads winter solstice swim.

These enhancements have improved the structural integrity and lifespan while maintaining the jetty’s original look and feel.
