Barwon Heads’ Mitchell Gourley to take to international stage
BARWON Heads’ Mitchell Gourley will compete in para-alpine skiing at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Games, which start next week.
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson congratulated Mitchell on his tremendous achievement in representing Australia on the international stage.
“I congratulate all our athletes named in our Winter Paralympics team, but especially Mitchell who makes us doubly proud as he has been named a team captain as well,” Ms Henderson said.
“I know Mitchell will give his very best in South Korea next month when he represents our community and Australia.”
Ms Henderson said the stories of endeavour and ambition were everywhere and the entire nation was looking forward to celebrating these journeys and the achievements of the 2018 team.
Australia’s athletes will compete in alpine skiing and snowboarding.
They will be led by team captains, World Champion skier Gourley and multiple World Cup-winning snowboarder Joany Badenhorst.
Almost 700 athletes from 50 countries are expected to compete at the PyeongChang Paralympic Winter Games, staged from March 9-18.
