Barwon Heads seniors stoked for Christmas Luncheon return
THE Barwon Heads Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon is on again in 2021 after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The Christmas luncheon is set to take place on December 13 this year and will also be back at the Barwon Heads Senior Community Centre on Clifford Parade.
Food and drinks this year have been graciously paid for by the Ocean Grove Barwon Heads Lions Club.
Barwon Heads Senior Citizens Club president Norman Buckley is excited to get the members back together again after what has been a trying last 18 months.
Despite a slight decline in members over the last two years, according to Mr Buckley, the club’s base stands at approximately 180 members with a maximum of 66 people permitted to attend the luncheon.
“The luncheon is a favourite of the club,” Mr Buckley said.
“We are looking forward to seeing the club’s usual members in attendance and mingling again, but it also provides a chance for potential new members to get involved as the event is available to everyone.”
“Most importantly it gives us a chance to check on people’s health and make sure they are alright and let them know of some of the things going on around the area.”
Mr Buckley mentioned the food on offer included a roast consisting of three meats, vegetables, John Menzies’ famous gravy, and dessert. Wine, soft drink, tea and coffee will also be supplied by the club.
There is a slight worry of personal health amongst a few potential attendees, as many people expected to attend the event are in the older age demographics, added Mr Buckley.
“Our most important priority is making people feel comfortable at the luncheon,” he said.
“We will work with members who are worried to do everything we can to make them feel comfortable and implement all the COVID-safe practices we can such as keeping the tables spaced apart.”
Prior to the luncheon, the Seniors club will hold its Annual General Meeting at 11.30am to go over minutes and topics of discussion heading into 2022.
Bookings for the luncheon are essential and vaccination certificates are required; no exceptions will be made.
Mr Buckley said bookings can be made by putting a note in the Seniors letterbox located at 5A Clifford Parade in Barwon Heads or by leaving a voicemail message on 5254 2058.
