Barwon Health receives $578 million funding boost
PATIENTS and their families in Geelong will continue to get the very best care from our hard-working doctors and nurses, thanks to a big funding boost for Barwon Health from the Andrews Labor Government.
Local Members of Parliament last week announced a massive $578.71 million investment for nurses and doctors at Barwon Health to do what they do best – provide the world-class care that locals need.
The Labor Government’s funding is $25.9 million more than the previous 12 months, ensuring Barwon Health is perfectly placed to continue to offer the services and treatment that families deserve.
Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville said, “There’s no point building world-class hospitals if our nurses and doctors don’t have the funding they need to deliver the very best care.
“We’re not just building hospitals, we’re investing in them too.”
Across the state, the Labor Government is providing a record $12.2 billion for hospital and health services to treat more patients and provide even better care, helping meet the needs of our growing state.
It includes a $2.5 billion boost to hospitals in the Victorian Budget 2019/20.
More than two million patients will be treated in Victorian hospitals over the next year, including more than 200,000 elective surgeries and 750,000 emergency department presentations.
It means more patients will receive care, treatment and surgeries sooner.
The Labor Government is also making dental care free in Victorian public schools, providing 500,000 specialist appointments in regional Victoria, recruiting more nurses, midwives and paramedics, and getting on with the job of delivering its $3.8 billion pipeline of hospital construction projects.
