Baton spreads cheer through the Borough
COMMONWEALTH Games history was made in Queenscliff on Monday, as the Queen’s Baton Relay passed through the Borough on the way to the Gold Coast.
People lined the streets to cheer on the 15 batonbearers as they made their way along Hesse Street, King Street, Flinders Street and the Bellarine Highway.
The 15 batonbearers in the Queenscliff leg were George Abel, John Reginald Beazley, Meagan Canaway, Bianca Chatfield, Jacquie Johnston, Tom Limb, Molly McKenzie, Richelle Olsen, Victoria Potter, Gail Rodgers, Barbara Shalders, Sienna Stewart, Kellie Whitehead, Martin Wilson and Suzanne Winton.
As of today (Thursday), the Queen’s Baton is in Bendigo, and it is scheduled to finish its 230,000-kilometre, 388-day journey on April 4.
