Beach access replacement works to begin
WORKS will start later this month on a set of dilapidated stairs along 13th Beach, better improving accessibility for residents and visitors ahead of the coming warmer months.
Barwon Coast stated the beach access stairs at 13th Beach, at the easternmost carpark along 13th Beach, are approaching the end of their functional life and will need to be replaced in line with coastal safety standards.
“This initiative aims to enhance the safety and convenience for beach users while protecting the surrounding environment from coastal processes,” Barwon Coast stated on its website.
The coastal management body, responsible for 19km of coast along the Bellarine Peninsula at beaches and foreshores such as Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, 13th Beach, and Breamlea, will begin the project later this month from October 28.
The construction of the stairs is expected to be completed by mid-December, and during the construction period, the stairs will be closed, incurring some disruptions to car park and pathway access.
In addition to the stairs being replaced, minor upgrades to the car park will also be undertaken , which will improve safety, access, and the overall aesthetics of the area for beachgoers.
