Bears to host region-first all abilities baseball day
THE Bellarine Bears is inviting local all-abilities athletes to Wallington Reserve this Sunday for a baseball come and try day.
The all-abilities baseball clinic will be the first of its kind to take place in the Greater Geelong region and aims to pique player’s interest in potentially starting a program or a competition.
Bellarine Bears vice president Matt Connell said it made him proud the club was aiming to increase their reach within the community.
“We’ve been continuously expanding our club culture and inclusivity, and this is another great step in doing so,” he said.
“There is a real appetite for all abilities sport within our region.
“We are really proud to be making inroads in trying to see if we can get this up and going regularly.
“If we get ten people, it might be just a local program at the Bears and if we get more, then we may look at getting a team up and going.
“We hope this initiative will help to kickstart things within the region for all-abilities baseball.”
Mr Connell said if local all-abilities athletes share an interest in wanting to form a team and play a ten week season, the goal is to run it line with Term 3 on each Sunday between July 17 and September 17.
The come and try day is suitable for players of all ages and all abilities.
The event will begin at 11am.
