Beaufort Municipal Brass Band to honour 150th anniversary in Portarlington
THE Beaufort Municipal Brass Band will be tuned up to play two free concerts tomorrow afternoon (February 18) for Portarlington’s community to celebrate their 150th year anniversary.
Based in Beaufort, 60km from Ballarat, the Beaufort Municipal Brass Band has been in operation since 1872 and are celebrating the milestone by filling their calendar with plenty of shows around the state in 2023, including the Bellarine Peninsula.
Portarlington Community Information Booth President, Phil Cameron said it was an honour to be hosting the ensemble this weekend.
“We are thrilled to have the Beaufort Municipal Brass Band visiting Portarlington and playing at our iconic bandstand,” Mr Cameron said.
“We jumped at the opportunity this presented for our town and think there’s nothing like listening to the sound of a Big Brass Band like Beaufort in a live setting.”
Currently under the Conductorship of Carlye Cheeseman, the band has amassed a series of awards at band competitions across the state and are a common fixture at district events like the Christmas Carols, Beaufort Show and Australia Day celebrations.
Locals looking to attend the musical event will be able to seek shaded seating under a marquee and are advised to bring their own chair for seating on the forecourt.
Alternatively, the music can also be enjoyed from the many outdoor café seating areas along Newcombe Street.
The band will also be performing a show on Sunday, February 19 at Scotchman’s Hill for those that miss out on Saturday’s event.
