BELLARINE Peninsula Basketball Association (BPBA) brought home the highest club accolade among the Big V basketball competition at the Big V Club Awards.

BPBA received the award for Big V’s Club of the Year, recognised for its strong on-court performance, efficient administration, and exceptional communication with Big V staff over the course of the 2022 campaign.

BPBA operations manager Nick Stamatopoulos said he and the club were honoured to have won the coveted award.

“Receiving the Big V Club of the Year award is truly an honour.

“It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the club, from the players and coaches to the support staff and supporters.

“We thanked the Big V for recognising our efforts and we will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.”

Stamatopolous said the organisation had taken a moral stance in previous years to refer back to its core values of commitment, integrity, and respect, while also consolidating its structure coming out of the pandemic.

“In the background to our on-court success, we’ve tried to become as efficient as possible off the court as well.

“We’ve also tried our best to attract people from the Bellarine as well as opposed to from outside the region.”

Headlining the list of achievements from 2022 for the Bellarine Storm was both its Big V sides making their respective grand finals, resulting in promotion to the Big V Championship competition for the senior men’s side.

BPBA also announced in October it would garner momentum for a new home, which was a more realistic possibility following the club’s commendation, according to Mr Stamatopolous.

“This award will certainly bring more attention to our brand, so hopefully a little more attention lands on us and our problems with venues,” he said.

“A new venue would create an enormous difference to our capabilities on game days and enhance our opportunities, assets and sponsorship ventures.”
