Bellarine playgrounds set for an upgrade

THE City of Greater Geelong is seeking community feedback on three Bellarine playgrounds set for renewal this year.

The upgrades will ensure each playground includes opportunities to run, swing, slide and climb, with refreshed equipment and improved accessibility.

The selected playgrounds are:

• Clear Water Reserve – Clear Water Drive, Clifton Springs

• Percy Cherry Reserve – Creekside Drive, Curlewis (slide only), and

• Collendina Reserve Playground -18 Minerva Close, Ocean Grove

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the renewals reflect the city’s commitment to maintaining safe and engaging spaces for families to enjoy.

“Playgrounds are important community assets that support healthy, active lifestyles and social connection.

“We’re proud to invest in spaces that encourage children to explore the great outdoors.”

The city manages more than 380 public playgrounds and another 62 early childhood centre-based playgrounds.

All playgrounds are regularly inspected and included in a monitored upgrade schedule reviewed annually.

Sports and recreation portfolio chair Eddy Kontelj encouraged residents to share their thoughts on the proposed designs.

“Local playgrounds are places where kids can learn through play and connect with their neighbourhood,” he said.

“We want to make sure these spaces reflect what our community needs and values, so we’re asking families to get involved and give us their insight.”
