Leopold Football Club members volunteer their time to collect for the Red Shield Appeal.

THE Bellarine has raised more than $20,100 for this year’s Red Shield Appeal held over the weekend.

The local community showed kindness and generosity on Saturday and Sunday, from
Westpac staff giving up their evening to help bank all the money, to the 96 Christian College Bellarine Campus students who raised a whopping $5200, to the members from Leopold Football and Netball Club who collected at traffic lights.

The weekend also kicked off with Chopsy’s Stir-Fry Noodle Bar in Leopold donating dinner to the Salvos’ youth group and homeless on the Bellarine.

The Salvation Army raised nearly $4.5 million as part of the 2018 Red Shield Appeal Doorknock, with Victoria raising $1,002,362 and the Bellarine $20,190.

“We are especially grateful for the more than 70,000 volunteers nation-wide, who assisted us over the weekend,” The Salvation Army’s national secretary for communications, Lieutenant-Colonel Neil Venables said.
