VICSES Bellarine Unit is recruiting new members to play a vital role in assisting the community during emergency situations.

HAVE you ever thought about a future in volunteering?

If so, now is your chance to make a difference and support your community with the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES).

The VICSES Bellarine Unit is presently recruiting new members to play a vital role in assisting the community during emergency situations.

“One of the things that make VICSES so great is the diversity of our members,” VICSES Bellarine Unit controller Russell Harrison said.

“You can have teachers working alongside electricians, retirees and university students – there really is a role for everyone.”

Mr Harrison said volunteering with VICSES had been a rewarding experience.

“The Bellarine Unit is a great place to meet new and interesting people and while supporting your community.

“There is so much opportunity here at VICSES and it’s always great to see new members get involved in the variety of different roles we offer.”

VICSES volunteers provide on the ground support during emergencies, from responding to natural disasters such as flood, storm, tsunami, earthquake and landslide, to road rescue, and supporting other emergency service organisations.

Volunteers also work with the community to strengthen the public’s capacity to plan, respond and recover, when emergencies occur.

VICSES volunteers receive accredited, recognised training as part of their role, which could include first aid, general rescue, chainsaw operations, community education, media training and much more.

The VICSES Bellarine Unit, located at Drysdale, is holding an information session on November 28 at 7pm. RSVP is required.
