Besties raise more than $3,300 for research
YOUNG besties Khy Slavinskis and Miller Smith biked across the Bellarine on Monday to raise more than $3,300 for brain cancer research.
The Barwon Heads Primary School pupils took on the Bellarine Rail Trail from Drysdale to Queenscliff and back to Barwon Heads to support Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer foundation.
Khy’s mum Amy said the boys enjoyed a wonderful ride and were lucky enough to get blue skies and a bit of a tail wind to help them out.
“They rode for about two and a half hours with a few stops to admire the beautiful place we call home around the Bellarine,” Amy said.
“They were welcomed back at the bridge by family and friends cheering them in.”
Amy said luckily the boys did the ride with ease, only complaining of sore legs once they went to bed that night.
“A huge thank you to the community for getting behind them and helping them raise a massive $3,322.35,” she said.
Khy and Miller came up with “Besties Bike the Bellarine for Brains” as a way to give back and be thankful, after both their dads won battles with cancer. Amy said the boys knew how lucky they were that their dads’ cancers had a treatment and cure, but also knew that brain cancer had no cure at this stage, and they wanted to help.
