Better balance for mums and bubs
AN ONLINE website/forum aimed at better supporting women throughout their pregnancy and parenting journey is the brainchild of Ocean Grove’s Alex Gadsden.
Being Better Balanced (BBB) provides interactive webinars with leading health professionals, eBooks and online classes, that may help alleviate stress for pregnant and postpartum women affected by stage three restrictions, according to Ms Gadsden.
“The site launched in January after I’d worked on it for a couple of years. Now with coronavirus restricting access to a lot of health services, a lot more women are panicking.
“Their prenatal appointments and birth classes are being cancelled. Being Better Balanced is a safe and positive space for them to access that information without having to leave the home.”
A chiropractor by trade, Ms Gadsen said she first had the idea of creating the interactive online resource, when she realised how many women struggle to access health services.
“I work with lots of pregnant women, new mums and kids in our practice and over time I realised there are a lot of women that aren’t in Geelong.
“Women who have really busy schedules or financially can’t afford to go and see all these wonderful health professionals in the birthing and parenting scene. So, I thought, ‘How can I change that?’, and make it accessible for everyone.
“I wanted to make sure that women everywhere, no matter what their circumstances, are able to access different health professionals and information. Some of the professionals featured include a lactation specialist, nutritionist, naturopath, midwives and a birthing doula.”
Ms Gadsden said the response had been really positive with women using the site to guide them through their parenting journey.
“It’s about making sure they’re comfortable during their pregnancy and are feeling healthy and well. The first eBook covers everything pregnancy related, then the second, covers everything postpartum.
“We’re providing a chapter of our first eBook free for the community to use. We will also be holding free online classes to better support families during this time and have a mini-series via Facebook live coming up that the public can access.”
