Big Day Out for volunteers

October 3, 2018 BY

Volunteers who helped plant, mulch and water more than 130 indigenous plants in the dunes during Bushcare’s Big Day Out.

A GROUP of 27 hardy locals braved cool and breezy conditions last month to participate in Bushcare’s Big Day Out, organised by Ocean Grove Coastcare.

From planting, mulching and watering more than 130 indigenous plants in the dunes near the Collendina 7W access track, that area will now have more shelter and food for the birds, lizards and insects who call it home.

An interesting array of litter was also collected that included a box of baking trays, a car mat, many bottles and cans, and much plastic.

This was the third planting event organised by Coastcare in that area over the past 18 months, from which a total of about 500 new plants have filled spaces in the dunes.
