CHANGES to kerbside bin collections will affect every residence in Surf Coast Shire during the week of Christmas this year.

Collection truck drivers will take Christmas Day, a Monday, off. Consequently, the council will empty all residential bins a day later than their usual schedule for that week.

From 26 to 30 December, the revised schedule will be as follows: bins usually emptied on Monday will see collection on Tuesday, Tuesday’s bins on Wednesday, Wednesday’s bins on Thursday, Thursday’s bins on Friday, and Friday’s bins on Saturday.

Normal collections will resume from 1 January 2024.

Councillor Paul Barker said it was important for residents and visitors to familiarise themselves with the revised schedule.

“It is important for residents and visitors to note that the changes will affect collections for the entire week, and not just the Monday,” Cr Barker said.

“We encourage people to download the free Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling App SCRRApp to receive bin night reminders to help them put the right bins out on the correct night that week.”

The app offers bin night reminders, a waste and recycling guide, and notifications about collection changes or additional collections.

Residents can also download a PDF collection calendar from surfcoast.vic.gov.au/calendars or enter their address at surfcoast.vic.gov.au/mybin under the ‘My Neighbourhood’ field.

“All residential properties which receive a kerbside service will also receive one extra red lid landfill bin collection and one extra yellow lid bin recycling collection during the festive period,” Cr Barker said.

The council also encouraged residents to sort their household waste and recycling correctly.
