THE doors of council meetings in the Borough of Queenscliffe are open to the public again, with the council returning to in-person meetings last month.

Municipalities across Victoria including the Borough of Queenscliffe stopped holding public council meetings last year due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, with monthly council meetings going virtual and being streamed over the internet.

Councils returned to holding in-person meetings earlier this year but have only recently started allowing people to sit in the public gallery.

The Borough of Queenscliffe’s first meeting at Queenscliff Town Hall under the usual settings was on April 28, and the next, a planning review meeting, will be held on Wednesday, May 12.

“We’re also continuing to livestream meetings online to ensure community members who cannot attend in person are still able to watch proceedings,” a borough spokesperson said.

Ordinary meetings are typically conducted at 7pm on either the last or second-last Wednesday of the month. The public is welcome to attend these meetings.

Special meetings are only held as required and are not necessarily open to the public.

Planning review meetings are held when required to review planning applications and meet with the applicant and any objectors, and are open to the public.
