A DOZEN community groups will benefit from the 2023-24 round of community grants from the Borough of Queenscliffe.

The borough awarded 12 community recipient organisations with funding boosts ranging from $664 to $2,400 during a special ceremony earlier this month at the Queenscliffe Hub.

Queenscliffe mayor Isabelle Tolhurst said it was a joy for the borough to be celebrating community events across the municipality.

“The initiatives fulfill two of the major pillars in our Community Vision.

“They are, enhancing health and well-being, and encouraging an inclusive and engaged community.

“This year’s initiatives all work, in unique ways, to bring people together.”

This year’s recipients were:
Boomerang Bags – $1,129 for servicing machines and materials
Combined Probus Club of Queenscliffe – $1000 for the purchase of wool for beanies/blankets
Point Lonsdale Board Riders – $1500 Groms off the Wall program
Point Lonsdale Basketball Assoc – $1864 for equipment and training
Point Lonsdale Primary School – $664 for Nippers in schools

Cr Tolhurst said the spread of organisations sharing in the grant pool of $18,862 showed the Borough of Queenscliffe was a community of diverse interests and pursuits.

“On a daily basis the 12 recipients engage local people, foster collaboration, facilitate conversation, and share skills.

“They are run almost entirely by volunteers who are the engines of these varied organisations.”
