POINT Lonsdale Boardriders Club has ushered in a new era by electing its first female presidents in its 61-year history.

Minnie Vorrath and Lucy Naylor will lead the club moving forward, following Max Lazarus stepping down after eight years at the helm.

The young pair have been members of the Point Lonsdale Boardriders Club since they were children and have both represented their hometown on many occasions at national events.

The local pair have been members of PLBC since they were children.

They step into the role with an open mind and an eagerness to make their mark on the future of Point Lonsdale.

Ms Vorrath said it was a great honour to be given such an amazing opportunity to lead the club through its next chapter.

“It’s so exciting, and I’m equally proud to be sharing it with a close friend like Lucy.”

Ms Naylor echoed her sentiment, saying “two minds were better than one.”

Ms Vorrath and Ms Naylor will spearhead most of the surfing side of the club, including competitions.

“Minnie is such a creative mind, whereas I’m not at all. She’ll really handle that creative and logistical side. Having both of us as presidents will mean we can do more for the club.

“We both didn’t want to do the role on our own, but we are stoked to be able to do it together.”

She said the club was in a fantastic position ahead of their biggest fundraiser – The Lighthouse Party in February.

“We’ve got an amazing committee… This will give us a greater opportunity to run the competitions, get the prizes and help to spearhead the surf coaching program.”

Ms Vorrath said she hoped to grow the community and engage non-surfers. “We just want to make it a fun environment to be around, and one where everyone can get involved.”
