BANCOORA Surf Lifesaving Club would receive an $8 million lifeline under a Coalition State Government.

Liberal candidate for South Barwon Andrew Katos and Polwarth Liberal MP Richard Riordan have pledged a new clubhouse for the surf club in Breamlea, which has seen a spike in popularity as the nearby Armstrong Creek growth area surges in population.

The investment would deliver a full redevelopment of the club’s 40-year-old facilities, with a new clubhouse to include surf rescue gear, change rooms, Nippers rooms, a kiosk, meeting rooms, and a social area with kitchen bar and dining upstairs.

Bancoora SLSC went public with its call for facility upgrades last month including for its clubhouse and patrol tower, with the club capping its Nippers program intake as it struggles to keep pace with demand.

Mr Katos said the $8 million injection would provide a valuable boost to the community group.

“This investment by a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will ensure that South Barwon and the Geelong region gets its fair share.

“Delivering modern facilities will encourage more people to participate in surf lifesaving which will in turn provide beach goers with a safer environment to recreate.”

Mr Riordan said the upgrade would be well-deserved.

“Bancoora Surf Life Saving Club has made a huge contribution to the local community and it’s only fair that they receive the support they deserve.”
