Bellarine MP Lisa Neville (right) met with Leopold firefighters on Monday to congratulate them on their funding win.

THE Leopold Fire Brigade can now be equipped with the facility it needs to protect the Leopold and wider community thanks to a budget boost last week.

Bellarine MP Lisa Neville announced the brigade would receive $800,000 from this year’s state budget, and took some time on Monday to visit with volunteers.

Ms Neville said that given the significant growth in population and infrastructure of Leopold over the last decade there was a need to for an upgrade of the local brigade.

She said that the $800,000 funding would allow the CFA and the Leopold Fire Brigade to determine the best and most effective options to carry out its duties in protecting the local community.

Ms Neville said that the Bellarine was extremely well served by dedicated brigades right across the peninsula and the Leopold CFA was no exception.

“The Leopold CFA has served and protected the Leopold community for many decades with its current facilities and now is the time for the brigade to plan and build for the future.

“I congratulate and thank the brigade and all its dedicated volunteer members for the magnificent work that they do and I know this funding is very much well deserved.”
