A PORTARLINGTON mother has found stability and purpose by participating in a local mentoring program.

Single mother Bridgette Quinn first connected with Parent Pathways in November 2024, eager to support her young family by finding work in the local community.

Parent Pathways is a free, voluntary Australian Government service designed to support eligible parents of children under six as they consider their next steps.

With encouragement and guidance from her mentor, Bridgette soon secured a job at a local café, a role she continues to hold with pride.

She said the Parent Pathways program has helped her build confidence, develop new skills and gain a sense of purpose.

Through the program, Bridgette has received support with travel registration to help her reliably commute to work, had access to new prescription glasses, and been given food relief during the quieter winter period when café hours were reduced.

These practical supports have helped ease the pressure of choosing between essentials like rent, utilities and daily needs.

She is now exploring work opportunities that provide more financial security and the flexibility to be there for her daughter.

Her mentor continues to work closely with her to identify options which suit her goals and circumstances.
