Business is good at The Belmont Market
BUSINESS is thriving at The Belmont Market, with two market days at capacity last month – the first time since 2017 that all 271 stalls have been manned.
January is also doing well, with bookings up 30 per cent on last year.
The Belmont Market has been a weekly fixture of the Geelong community calendar for 50 years.
Held on Sunday mornings, small traders from across the region offer new and pre-loved clothing, jewellery, accessories, fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and flowers, handmade crafts and other treasures.
Since taking on the management of the market in 2006, the City of Greater Geelong has worked to enhance the experience for stallholders and visitors.
This has been achieved by creating an easy and affordable stall booking process, curating a balance of quality offerings, and encouraging a safe and inviting atmosphere.
The market has welcomed stallholders from the Geelong Showgrounds Market, which closed in September.
Organisers have also linked the strong numbers to festive season positivity, fine weather and a growing preference for supporting local growers, makers, producers and creators.
“The Belmont Market brings together a group of passionate, like-minded people each week, which is really special,” Kardinia Ward councillor Ron Nelson said.
“To have all 271 stalls booked on two occasions last month is a testament to all involved, including the management team, stallholders and visitors.
“A visit to the market makes for a worthwhile Sunday morning outing, where the community spirit is in abundance.
“It’s a great place to grab a bargain. There is always something for everyone, from plants and clothes to books and tools, it’s a real eclectic mix of old and new.”
The Belmont Market is held every Sunday at the Barwon Valley Activity Centre, 1 Barwon Heads Road, Belmont, from 8am-1pm.
Stall bookings are accepted two weeks before each market date.
