THE Rotary Club of Ocean Grove has a new president, with former club secretary Lynne Carlson taking on the honour for 2023/24.

At the club’s changeover dinner last week, Mrs Carlson was inducted with her new title and thanked outgoing president Peter Cowburn for his service and commitment to the Bellarine community.

“I am excited about taking on the presidency and look forward to the club being actively involved in the local community in the wider Rotary community in the year ahead.”

Rotary district governor, Ian McKay from Mount Gambier also thanked Mr Cowburn for his leadership and congratulated Mrs Carlson on commencing her presidency.

“It is a compelling year for Rotary as Rotary international president, Gordon McInally from Scotland has challenged Rotarians to create hope in the world.

“Gordon has asked us all to continue the push to eradicate polio and place a focus on supporting mental health initiatives.

“Within Australia, Rotary districts are also combining to focus on an important awareness raising to say no to domestic and family violence.”

In handing over the title to Mrs Carlson, outgoing president Peter Cowburn announced $90,000 was donated to various charities and projects over the last twelve months.

The club donated to Australian and Pakistan flood recovery, Syria and Turkey earthquake relief, local primary school scholarships, Feed Me Bellarine, student scholarships in Bali and Nepal, Riding Develops Abilities and the Disabled Surfers Association.

Mr Cowburn highlighted the success of the Great Barwon River Duck Race and the Summer Markets and cited both events importance in making a positive difference in the community.
