Carnival of Golf on course for another big year

July 17, 2019 BY

Max Edmanson from Portarlington will come out swinging at next month’s Carnival of Golf.

ARGUABLY one the biggest golfing weeks in Victoria, the Portarlington Carnival of Golf is expected to attract more than 1,000 competitors to Portarlington Golf Club next month.

Beginning on Saturday August 31, the event gives golfers a terrific opportunity to play on the award-winning Santa Ana couch grass course, which has been ranked for the last four years in the top 100 courses in Australia.

The Club’s Pro Am has also won Victorian Regional PGA Pro Am of the Year twice and is a finalist again this year.

Offering more than $15,000 worth of prizes, the week has events that welcome all levels of golfers, so that everyone can enjoy the carnival.

“The success of the carnival is palpable, as the event marks its 22nd year,” club CEO Ron Stockdale said.

“We must thank our major event sponsor, the Portarlington and Drysdale Community Bendigo Bank Branches.”

The Community Bank Men’s 36-hole championship kicks off the golf week on Saturday August 31.

The best golfers in the district will be out in full force, with Matthew Ryan looking to retain his title from last year.

Rising star Max Edmanson from Portarlington will be hoping to be on the leaderboard this year.

The Wettenhall’s Bellarine Ladies’ Open Championship at the carnival is on Tuesday September 3.

Previous winner Adele Huggard has now turned pro, so it is anyone’s game and to add to that, it is now an 18-hole event – making it even more attractive to all.

The week finishes on Friday September 6 with the Bellarine Times Ambrose Event, with entries coming in very quickly already for that day.

“If you don’t manage to pick up a place in one of the 10 golfing events, there is the exciting prospect of winning three nights’ accommodation on Hamilton Island by entering the daily raffles,” Mr Stockdale said.

“Clubhouse operations are in full swing during the week, with the carvery on Wednesday and wine tasting on the Friday afternoon to mark the end of the Carnival week.”

Portarlington Golf Club looks forward to welcoming golfers with their renowned hospitality to this impressive event on the Bellarine Peninsula.
