GEELONG forward Gryan Miers says the Cats’ high-intensity pre-season clash against Essendon was great preparation for their coming AFL Opening Round match against Brisbane.

The Cats lost 17.2 (104) to 12.11 (83) in front of more than 11,000 fans at GMHBA Stadium on Tuesday night.

“They brought the pressure early and made us fumble and play a bit outside our comfort zone, which was the perfect situation for us, really,” Miers, who collected 30 disposals, said.

“You don’t want to go out and use these games as just a training drill.”

The Cats beat Hawthorn 15.16 (106) to 13.8 (86) in their match simulation on Monday last week.

Geelong will play Brisbane at the Gabba on Thursday, March 6.
