Celebrating 125 years of Geelong Gallery

Local art lovers are invited to join in celebrating 125 years of the Geelong Gallery via a virtual event being held next month.

To celebrate the significant milestone, the gallery is hosting an online event to support the final stages of fundraising for a 125th Anniversary Acquisition – the purchase of a major painting by internationally acclaimed Indigenous painter, the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye (c.1910-1996).

Through the support of nine donors $125,000 has already been raised, with $35,000 remaining to reach the fundraising goal.

A reimagined version of the President’s Dinner hosted in 2018 and 2019, this year’s virtual fundraising event will include a live auction of 20 limited edition screen prints by eminent Melbourne-based artist Rose Nolan.

Guests can enjoy the festivities from the comfort of their homes, while taking advantage of the catered canapé and beverage packages on offer as part of the ticket price.

Geelong Gallery director and CEO Jason Smith will be joined by gallery president, Gerard Mullaly, in hosting the COVIDSafe event which will reflect on the gallery’s history and include a viewing of the 125th Anniversary Acquisition.

Judith Ryan AM, former senior curator, Indigenous Art, National Gallery of Victoria, will also provide with special comments.

The 125th anniversary online event will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 7pm to 8pm.
