TODAY (Friday, March 8) is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender equality.

The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is “Inspire Inclusion”.

To mark the day, there are several events happening around the region.

The Surf Coast Shire will today host an event with a panel of women from across the area, sharing their stories and helping to inspire inclusion.

Marsha Uppill, an entrepreneur and Adnyamathanha woman, will lead the panel discussions.

Along with the panel, morning tea and door prizes will also be on offer and attendees will have the opportunity to network with each other.

The free event will take place at the Torquay Senior Citizens Centre from 10am to 12 noon. For tickets, head to eventbrite.com.au

The City of Greater Geelong will celebrate the day by announcing the winners of their 2024 Women in Community Life Awards.

The awards began in 2016 and recognise the contribution made by women in the community and their impact on promoting and advocating for the advancement of gender equality.

There are seven categories within the awards, with the three 2024 panellists being previous winners.

The city will hold its free event at Wurriki Nyal from 5pm. For more information, head to geelongaustralia.com.au
