Celebrating Nature Week in Geelong
Running until November, 30 the week will include a range of activities giving the community a way to experience nature and discover what’s being done to encourage biodiversity.
City of Greater Geelong chief executive officer Ali Wastie said Geelong is fortunate to have diversity in nature experiences.
“Our program has a range of events across the region that showcase the diversity on offer.
“This is a chance to hear from amazing and knowledgeable speakers on a range of topics from incorporating nature into urban areas to conserving our most vulnerable wildlife and the cultural significance of our local nature.”
Events are taking place each day of the week, with the program including:
Limeburners Lagoon Cultural Walk
Sparrovale Wetland Reserve Ngubijt yoorree Nature Walk
Design for Nature- rewild public urban spaces
Spotlight on threatened species – Mount Rothwell
Charles McCarthy Reserve Nature Walk
Ocean Grove Dog’s Breakfast
The Bellarine Catchment Network will also participate in the event, running a Lake Lorne Nature Walk with nature themed craft activities and biodiversity bingo on November 28.
Bellarine Catchment Network coastal and biodiversity program leader Naomi Wells said they are excited to be participating in the Geelong Nature Festival.
“We will be running a nature walk at the beautiful Lake Lorne in Drysdale where you can currently spot elegant Black Swans, zebra-looking Pink-eared Ducks and dazzling Royal Spoonbills.
“It is the perfect spot to engage with nature; from Indigenous plants, butterflies and frogs and of course, is a birdwatchers dream.”
