The Geelong Venom have landed another major signing ahead of the 2026–27 WNBL season, with superstar Maddy Rocci announced as the club’s new point guard.
The deal is subject to league approval.
Rocci arrives with a decorated résumé, having won three WNBL championships – two with Canberra and another with the Southside Melbourne Flyers under new Venom head coach Cheryl Chambers.
The elite guard will also reunite with fellow recruit Bec Cole, who signed with Geelong last month.
Chambers said Rocci was exactly the type of player the club was seeking.
“I know what she’s capable of – I’ve watched her win championships and I’ve seen first-hand the work she puts in behind the scenes to get there,” she said.
“As a point guard, she controls the game in a way that makes everyone around her better.”
Chambers praised Rocci’s vision and her ability to get “into the paint and create”.
The 27-year-old has suited up for the Australian Opals on multiple occasions and has recently returned from a training camp stint with WNBA side Toronto Tempo, where she worked under Opals coach Sandy Brondello.
Rocci is in outstanding form with NBL1 South side Keilor, averaging 24.3 points, 7.3 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game, and is coming off a strong 2025–26 WNBL campaign campaign that saw her guide the Flyers to a finals berth.
“Maddy’s experience at the highest levels – including her recent stint with the Tempo – means she arrives here ready to lead from day one,” Chambers said.
“We’re building something very exciting here in Geelong, and having Maddy at the helm of it is a very significant statement of intent.”
Rocci joins co-captain Alex Sharp, Bec Cole and Lilly Rotunno on a rapidly assembling Venom roster, with further signings expected in the coming days.
